For years, environmental “do gooders” have been pushing energy efficiency and sustainability in commercial buildings.  I can’t tell you how many time I have heard, “Ya gotta go green” with only vague references to whether it made financial sense to a building owner or tenant. It’s not that I am not in favor of reducing energy use and keeping our environment safe for our children’s children, it’s just that, as I have argued over the years, you are not going to get people on board in the volume that will make a difference unless you can show them that it makes financial sense.

That’s where The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), comes in. IMT is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization promoting energy efficiency, green building, and environmental protection in the United States and abroad. The prevailing focus of IMT’s work is energy efficiency in buildings. Their activities include technical and market research, policy and program development, and promotion of best practices and knowledge exchange. In particular, IMT aims to strengthen market recognition of the link between buildings’ energy efficiency and their financial value. If you want to save money or increase your property value, IMT will help you realize those goals.

In this show, we interview Adam Sledd, Director of Market Engagement at IMT.

We will be discussing some of IMT’s most recent initiatives and programs and how it is bridging the gap for building owners and tenants between their financial opportunities, responsibilities and sustainable social responsibility.

This will be a live, online, interactive TV show in which you can be seen and heard asking questions and directly letting us know your thoughts. Adam leads IMT’s efforts engaging the commercial real estate industry in energy efficiency strategies. He helps individual companies, trade associations, and government agencies save energy and money by incorporating sustainability into the landlord-tenant relationship. He speaks frequently on the topic of energy efficiency to a variety of audiences including green building professionals, Chamber of Commerce executives, and commercial real estate brokers.

Prior to joining IMT, Adam was a founding partner at Sledd Properties LLC in Richmond, Virginia. At Sledd Properties he managed both shopping center and office properties, negotiated leases, managed construction and rezoning processes, and performed due diligence on acquisitions.  Adam has also worked extensively in the film and publishing industries.

Adam received his bachelor’s degree in media studies from Pitzer College and an MBA in Real Estate from American University. He is also a LEED Green Associate.
